The Barking House Lochranza
The Old Barking House in Lochranza on the Isle of Arran. An old ruined building dating from the 19th Century. This is the place where in the past fishing nets were steeped in vats of a preservative called cutch. They were then hung out to dry on frames. Cutch was obtained by boiling tree bark imported from India or Burma.
This process was called barking hence the name of building as The Barking House
